The Maronite Diocese of Mexico invites the faithful to participate in a Novena to Saint Charbel to ask for a country without violence, with peace and reconciliation, which will take place from July 8 to 16.
Through a statement, the Maronite Diocese of Mexico pointed out that “aware of the large number of devotees that there are throughout the republic, we have seen fit to convene that this year’s novena be offered for the end of violence, reconciliation and healing of our beloved homeland, as well as for all the needs of its devotees.
In this sense, it indicates that the Maronite parishes of the Diocese are organizing for this activity, and that the novena can be followed on the Facebook pages “Maronites” and “Devotees of San Chárbel”.
Finally, the Maronite Diocese of Mexico implores the help of “San Chárbel, patron saint of those who suffer in soul and body” so that “with his intercession he caresses our Mexico, which loves it so much”.
According to the Maronite rite, the feast of Saint Charbel is celebrated on the third Sunday of July, which this year falls on the 17th. In the Roman rite of the Catholic Church, it is usually celebrated every July 24.
Violence in Mexico
The initiative of the Maronite Diocese of Mexico joins the call of the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate, the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious of Mexico and the Province of the Society of Jesus in the country, who on July 4 convened a Day of Prayer for Peace throughout the month.
Likewise, the bishops, priests and religious will offer the Masses on July 10 in “memory of all the priests, religious men and women who have been murdered in the country.”
In this regard, they expressed regret for the growing violence that has taken the lives of 7 priests during the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. In this period, throughout the country, more than 121 thousand homicides have been registered.
According to official figures, from the beginning of January to July 3 of this year, 13,389 homicides have been registered in Mexico.
