Virgin River will have a big change in Season 5

Fans are already looking forward to the return of Virgin River. And the production of the series is already in full swing, since the beginning of August. This means that we will return to the small town faster and follow the drama of the residents.

Last time we saw Virgin River, Jack and Mel were at an advanced stage in their relationship. Incidentally, Jack was quite surprised to find out that he is not officially the father of the twins. The ex-Marine was told by Charmainne that, in fact, the father of the children she is expecting is someone else.

However, several other destinations were left open. Now Mel is pregnant and Jack is the father. In addition, we will still see the fate of Preacher, Hope and the other characters in the series.

However, a change behind the scenes of the series can have some consequences in the plot. Virgin River will no longer have its creator and main writer. That is, it is likely that the course of some characters will be completely different from now on.

The change in Virgin River

With the departure of Sue Tenney, the main creator of the series, Patrick Sean Smith (Supernatural, Greek) will take over the scripts of Virgin River. Certainly, some changes will be immediately felt by fans. The main reason is that, generally, screenwriters have different lines of work, no matter how much there is a work on which to base themselves.

To TV Line, Patrick Sean Smith revealed what fans can expect:

“Sue moved on to other projects and I worked with Netflix on Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, so we had a pre-existing relationship. I was already a fan and was super excited when they came to me with the possibility. The cast cares a lot about the show and the fans, and they want to make the best show possible. I think they’ve done that for the last four seasons, so it’s easier for me to get the ball and keep running in Season 5 and beyond.”

Furthermore, the new showrunner of Virgin River said:

“There’s a lot going on, and it took me a while to understand what the characters have been through, where they’re going and where I’d like them to go. I wanted to be as transparent as possible.”

Finally, Smith stated that the series will not have a time jump. The show’s new year will begin right after the dramatic season four finale.

Season will be totally different from the others

The 5th season of Virgin River it will also be totally different from all the others. Smith stated that the show’s next year will be bigger and better than anything they’ve ever done. Canadian actor Ben Hollingsworth, who plays Dan Brady, described the fifth season as ambitious.

“We’re going to have a very important episode for Brady, and it’s going to be a lot of fun to shoot. I think we’ll also see a rift between Mike and Brady as he (Brady) and Brie get closer and closer.”

Smith further stated that, the new year of the series will be even more inclusive and diverse. However, it will not abandon the tone that made the production extremely famous.

“We are going to tackle new and exciting plots. But the series remains the same. We definitely took a more dynamic approach to some of the stories. It will be a ‘noisier’ season, but without forgetting the ‘comfortable’ style”.

Finally, the audience’s favorite couple’s wedding will not take place in Season 5 of Virgin River. Smith stated:

“Mel and Jack are an epic couple, so we want to savor this plot as much as possible. We don’t want to ‘lock up’ the series, but we also need to enjoy this engagement.”
