Pope Francis thanks the Schoenstatt Fathers for their service to the Church and the world

Pope Francis thanked the parents of the Schoenstatt community for the “beautiful service to the Church and to the world” that they carry out by being “bearers of a message of hope” to the families.

This is what the Holy Father said this September 1 when he received the General Chapter of the Schoenstatt Fathers Secular Institute in the Vatican.

“Dear parents of the Schoenstatt community, I pray to the Holy Spirit to make all the efforts you have made during the General Chapter bear fruit,” the Pope said.

Furthermore, Pope Francis noted that these priests “perform a beautiful service to the Church and to the world, especially accompanying families in the various events and vicissitudes that they go through, announcing to all the members the beauty of the ‘Covenant of Love’ that the Lord has established with his people”.

“Today there are many marriages in crisis, young people tempted, the elderly forgotten, children who suffer. And you are bearers of a message of hope in these dark situations that cross each stage of life. And this progresses a little together with this dispossession of human values, a dispossession that ideological colonizations of all kinds are savagely doing,” the Pope warned.

Along these lines, the Holy Father stressed that “the world demands more and more of us to give answers to the questions and concerns of the men and women of our time” and lamented that “we frequently see that the nature of the family is attacked by various ideologies, which shake the foundations that support the personality of the human being and, in general, the entire society”.

Given this, the Pope stressed the importance of the model “offered by the Holy Family, and especially the Virgin Mary, who cares with a tender and committed love for all her sons and daughters, especially the poorest, in body and spirit.”

“She, in the beautiful hymn of the Magnificat, confesses the feats of the Lord, who ‘defeats the powerful from their thrones and exalts the humble, fills the hungry with good things and sends the rich away empty’, referring to the promise , to the alliance made with ‘our parents’ in faith”, he explained.

In this line, the Holy Father highlighted that “the Blessed Virgin Mary, venerated with great love by each one of the members of the Schoenstatt community with the title of ‘Mother Thrice Admirable’is a basic model for all, which encourages the creation of bridges based on fraternal charity and the communion of goods with those most in need, and at the same time that gives us wisdom and courage to go to meet those who have distanced themselves from friendship with the Lord, to recover them with the testimony of the new life in Christ, which is characterized by mercy”.

“I encourage you, dear brothers, to go forward in your apostolates, always renewing yourself with the grace of the Holy Spirit and being brave to open new paths at the service of familiesto make the beauty of the Alliance established between God and men shine, with spirituality and the living of Christian values”, the Pope affirmed.

Finally, Pope Francis prayed that “Our Lord Jesus Christ, through the mediation of the Mater Admirabilis, may always grant abundant fruits of holiness to all the members of the Schoenstatt community. God bless you”.

New Superior General

The 6th General Chapter of the Schoenstatt Fathers Secular Institute elected in August the new General Directorate of the Community for the next six years, which has taken office immediately and the new superior general is Fr. Alexandre Awi Mello.

The new superior general, Fr. Alexandre Awi Mello, who has been secretary of the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life since 2017, “will still continue in that position for the next few months,” a statement said.

Along these lines, Pope Francis thanked Fr. Alexandre Awi Mello for his service as secretary in the Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life and wished him “a fruitful ministry in this new responsibility entrusted to him”.

Lastly, the Holy Father recounted “on my bedside table I have the image of the Virgin enthroned; Alexandre did, and after a fortnight he brought a crown to crown her. In other words, I have all your ceremony done [de la ‘secta’ de ustedes la tengo yo (risas)]. In such a way that every time I enter my bedroom, the first thing I see is that, and I have to remember you.
