In the prayer that he will pronounce this March 25 to consecrate Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pope Francis remembers Our Lady of Guadalupe in a special way.

According to the official text sent to all the bishops of the world, in the Act of consecration, which will take place around 6:30 pm (Rome time), the Holy Father will say: “In this dark hour, come to our aid and console us Repeat to each one of us: ‘Am I not here, who am your Mother?’”.

That phrase is compiled in the Nican Mopohua, a historical document that recounts the apparitions of the Virgin of Guadalupe to San Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin in December 1531.

On December 12, in the last of her appearances, faced with the fear of Saint Juan Diego due to the illness suffered by his uncle Juan Bernardino, Saint Mary of Guadalupe replies: “Listen and understand, my son the smallest, who is nothing that scares and afflicts you; let not your heart be troubled; do not fear that disease, nor any other disease and anguish. Am i not here, me that I’m your mother? Are you not under my protection? am I not your health? Aren’t you perchance in my lap? what more do you need? Don’t be sad or worried about anything else; do not be afflicted by your uncle’s illness, that he will not die now of it: he is sure that he is already healed”.

In statements to ACI Prensa, Fr. Eduardo Chávez, postulator of the cause of canonization of Saint Juan Diego and one of the greatest experts on the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe, indicated that in the words of the act of consecration that the Saint will pronounce Father on March 25 “obviously we are remembering the words that Santa María de Guadalupe said to the humble San Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin that December 12, 1531”.

Fr. Chávez stressed that the consecration of March 25 seeks “that Mary protect them, take care of them and peace reigns, because she is the Mother of Peace.”

The Mexican priest, canon of the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City, where the original image that miraculously appeared on the cloak of Saint Juan Diego on December 12, 1531 is preserved, indicated that the Archbishop Primate of Mexico, Cardinal Carlos Aguiar, will join, like all the bishops of the world, the consecration of Russia and Ukraine on March 25.

The celebration will take place at noon in the Basilica of Guadalupe.

Fr. Chávez encouraged all Catholics to unite “strongly in prayer for peace, to open this heart to their brother, to put down these weapons, this war.”

“We are going to ask the Lord a lot, through Saint Mary of Guadalupe, to touch the hearts of our brothers and ours too, because we are also waging our war,” he said.

In this way, he assured, we will be able to understand that Holy Mary “is our Mother, the Mother of the Most True God for whom we live.”

“We are children of God. We must keep repeating that Mary is our Mother and that the neighbor is my brother,” she noted.
