The Vatican published this Friday, July 1, the prayer intention of Pope Francis: The elderly.

“Let us pray for the elders who represent the roots and memory of a peopleso that their experience and wisdom help the youngest to look to the future with hope and responsibility”, the Pope asked for the month of July.

There are already several General Audiences in which Pope Francis has focused his catechesis on the elderly and older people.

On June 1, the Holy Father assured those present in Saint Peter’s Square that “theShame should fall on those who take advantage of weakness of sickness and old age.

“Prayer renews in the heart of the elderly the promise of God’s fidelity and blessing. The old man rediscovers prayer and bears witness to the strength of it,” he explained.

On another occasion, Pope Francis asked the faithful go visit the elderly in nursing homes: “Please go see them and take the children to see them. They are the honor of our civilization, the elderly who have opened the doors, and many times the children forget this.

In addition, the Holy Father has defended on several occasions the importance of the elderly as transmitters of faith and asked young people to change their perspective regarding the elderly, who after retirement still have a life ahead of them.
