Oscar Isaac Almost Rejected ‘Moon Knight’ Because of His Experience in ‘Star Wars’

‘Moon Knight’ could have had a different protagonist. This is stated by Oscar Isaac, who, as he tells The Hollywood Reporter, had serious doubts about embodying the superhero of the Marvel Cinematic Universe who suffers from a dissociative identity disorder, more commonly known as a personality disorder.

And it is that the actor ended up exhausted both physically and mentally at the end of ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’, where he gave life to Poe Dameron. However, he continued to work on projects far removed from the franchise, such as ‘Dune’, nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, or ‘The Card Counter’.

“It wasn’t right”

At that time, the star was also presented with the possibility of leading the aforementioned Marvel series, although, in this case, Isaac had to think twice before accepting the role. Why? According to him, he wanted to get away from the world of blockbusters and do something on a small scale: “It was not the right thing. I had been in the ‘Star Wars’ universe for a long time, which, on the other hand, I loved, but it took me a long time and was looking forward to getting back to smaller studios, characters, and movies.

However, he was so interested in the theme of the series and, above all, the illness suffered by the character, that he could not ignore the opportunity offered to him and even contributed ideas for its development: “I had many doubts , but there was something about Steven’s character that really caught my attention. Ultimately I thought there was room to create something. Size doesn’t matter in the end. So I did more and more research, and I started to dig deeper into TID [trastorno de identidad disociativo] and what it is to fight him. So I asked Kevin Feige, ‘Will I be able to dig into TID and what it means to fight him?’ and, to my surprise, he was very open to collaborate. “.

Moon Knight premieres on Disney+ on March 30.
