After a long wait, the return of Ewan McGregor as Master Obi-Wan Kenobi is closer than ever and we have more and more information about the new Disney + series. Recently, the actor Rupert Friend (‘Homeland’, ‘Hitman: Agent 47’) has spoken with HeyUGuys and has confirmed that many cameos and Easter eggs are coming in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’. The same thing happened in other series in the ‘Star Wars’ universe such as ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’.
During the premiere of the upcoming Netflix miniseries, ‘Anatomy of a Scandal’, Friend commented interesting things about the series of the iconic Jedi hero. “If it’s possible to be more excited than people already are, they would be,” says the British actor. “I think it’s one of the most exciting additions to the ‘Star Wars’ canon. I think Ewan McGregor is doing something that is a dream for fans of the original movies. Obviously, we can’t bring Alec Guinness back, but I think Ewan was born for this role. And great cameos from people that obviously I can’t say, but there will be a lot of Easter eggs.”
According to EW, writer Joby Harold has said that the series will be set in “dark times in the galaxy”, more specifically “10 years after ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith'”. In addition, Disney will bring back the Inquisition or Order of Inquisitors, a group of allies of the Sith who were tasked with hunting down the Jedi who survived after the events of Episode III.
New and old enemies in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’
Rupert Friend will be The Grand Inquisitor, the main villain in ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’. However, we also know that Hayden Christensen will return to the franchise as Darth Vader. In fact, this will be the first time Christensen and McGregor have met again on a Star Wars project since Revenge of the Sith. However, Vader and Kenobi would not meet again until their fight in ‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’. So, considering that the story of this new series will take place between both episodes of the saga, we do not know if these characters will interact at some point. One way or another, seeing both actors together again in the ‘Star Wars’ universe will be a very exciting time for fans.
On the other hand, we will also see the actress Moses Ingram (‘Lady’s Gambit’) as the Third Sister, which the actress defines in EW as a “relentless” villain. Along with her and Rupert Friend we will have Sung Kang (‘Fast & Furious’) as the Fifth Brother. The three will be part of the Inquisition that will persecute the Jedi.
