Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered: how does it run on PC? | Review

Between products that attempt to chase the box office successes of Marvel films while remaining on the same average qualitative level, and the new wave of projects that will arrive over the years, it remains frankly difficult to identify authentic pieces of nineties capable of staying memorable for a long time. . Marvel’s Spider-Man, above all, turned out to be a good game and has in fact created the basis for what will come in the future at the hands of Insomniac.

Marvel’s Spider-Man remastered

Platform: PC Genre: Action-Adventure Release Date: August 12, 2022 Developer: Insomniac Games Distributor: Sony

That Disney literally wants to flood the market with its franchises is pretty obvious, but the ongoing overexposure, unlike the film industry, doesn’t seem like a winning choice at the moment. Pleasant games but with enormous shortcomings such as Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy and others that struggle to make their way if not among the most extremist fans of the House of Ideas, however, have not stopped the great production machine.

While waiting to discover the near future, players will be able to get their hands on again in the meantime one of the few certainties which has positively impressed critics and audiences. Marvel’s Spider-Man, as is now the practice for all the great titles already arrived on PS5 and during the last vital breaths of PS4, is preparing for its debut on PC, with a series of improvements that are not at all negligible.

Marvel’s Spider-Man, story and gameplay

The most obvious qualities of Marvel’s Spider-Man undoubtedly lay in his great ability to replicate the light tones of comicsfaithfully tracing the attitudes and characteristics of the characters.

Although it suffered from a basic repetitiveness in the secondary schools, and despite the fact that something more important could be built with such an IP (but we await the following, to find out better in which direction it will go), the title developed by Insomniac successfully combined immediacy and effectiveness of the game systems implemented.

Peter Parker’s face change after the game was released, useful to create greater aesthetic closeness with Tom Hollandit was a basically painless process. Similarly, even the slowness of the first steps of the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man did not compromise the final success of the adventure, since in fact it was enough to reach the next act to finally see a more important and less narrative and gameplay push. devoted to little meaningful dynamics.

So here is that Marvel’s Spider-Man (buy it on Amazon in the console version), exactly as everyone expected, began to narrate the adolescent tribulations of young Peter, together with the stories that were closely linked to some of the enemies that everyone has learned to to know over the years and generations (for the elderly).

Right, structurally Marvel’s Spider-Man wasn’t exactly the brightest example of action-adventure noveltybent as he was to replicate the usual formula that has been going on for well over ten years.

Lighting gives the game a new aesthetic.

We are talking in particular of the alternation of primary, secondary, collectible missions to collect, points of interest to reach and some minigames. They convinced fewer scripted events accompanied by QTEs and a few extra lengths that essentially served to give more volume to the adventure without making the time spent really meaningful. The gameplay, on the other hand, opened up rather quickly and already gave the player an idea of how to face the fights, which were also not exactly innovative and determined to follow the long trail of the continuous flow of the action “bouncing” from a enemy to the other.

Marvel’s Spider-Man worked without astonishment, revitalized the figure of the wall climber and actually created a new term of comparison. Miles Morales, despite being more skimpy than the first work, followed the same path with dedication and no significant variation.. We are rather convinced that the sequel will do the same, but we expect important innovations that can enhance the new technologies and can give greater breath to the gaming environments, bound to a conception that remains in fact anchored to the ideas of the old school.

Technical analysis

We tested Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered on a laptop with a high-end i5, an RTX 3060 and 16GB of RAM, then moved on to a desktop PC equipped with a mid-range i7, an RTX 2060 Super and 16GB of RAM. . The game, in both cases, proves to have a frame rate not always stable. However, this does not mean that it drops below 60 frames when activating heavy options, but simply that the oscillations (from about 100 to 65 fps, so to speak) remain quite tangible. A day-one patch should solidify the frame rate, as explained by Sony.

Indoors, of course, the FPS remain very high and the stability is rockier than when dangling through Manhattan between skyscrapers, with sudden changes of direction and the weight of the computational computation becoming more complex, the major elements to be manage real-time and ray-tracing. PC-optimized graphics and new features allow Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (console versions available on Amazon) to support the latest technologies, such as DLSS And Deep learning anti-aliasing.

We specify that at the time of writing this article, Sony explained to us that it was investigating some critical issues related to AMD GPUs. Ray-tracing for these graphics cards was temporarily disabled and prior to launch, the focus was on resolving the issue. Thanks to a last minute update – just before the embargo expires – the situation has improved significantlybut it’s not perfect yet and you will clearly have to wait for an additional patch.

One of the fights you will face in the game.

For instance, the number of distant objects visible in the reflections is less than in the first buildbut we are working to better optimize everything, so as to offer a higher quality of the image. Since our first test, some DLSS-related performance has also improved in GPU-limited scenarios, as well as some bugs related to rendering, audio synchronization and some anomalous slowdowns.

Performance on Steam Deck has also taken a step forward, while in the menu it has been added IGTI option (Temporal injection of sleepless games).

It is a temporal algorithm for upsampling and anti-aliasing. In the build we tested during the initial submission of the code it was in fact present when DRS was enabled with TAA active, while now the selection has been deliberately made explicit.

In reminding you that it is not recommended to set the Ray-Tracing reflections to very high if you have a GPU with less than 10 GB of video memory, we underline how the implementation of this technology actually gives a completely different aesthetic to Marvel’s Spider-Man, transforming it in a title that on PC manages to make a good impression despite the years that have passed since its first release on consoles.

The version in question, in addition to support for mouse and keyboard, it also supports DualSense and its prominent features (haptic feedback and adaptive triggers). Definitely more interesting is the ultra-wide monitor supportwhich gives a new dimension to Marvel’s Spider-Man Manhattan and returns an unparalleled level of immersion. The resolutions 16: 9, 16:10, 21: 9, 32: 9 and 48: 9 for the triple monitor are included, suitable for those who want to be literally wrapped in a web of wonders.
