As we already announced, Guy Ritchie’s new war film, ‘The Interpreter’, is being shot in several Spanish cities. The first stop was Alicante, which left with it the occasional incident, and, since March 14, the team has been working in Zaragoza, specifically in the military installations located in the vicinity of Garrapinillos.

In Building 1 of Wing 31 of the Air Base of the Aragonese capital, a large set has been prepared that recreates the military installation of the US Army, stipulating that the recordings will last around four weeks. The first is already underway and will be mainly dedicated to office shots and scenes in a canteen area and a basketball court.

The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, who is already in the city immersed in filming, according to El Heraldo de Aragón. The actor plays John Kinley, a sergeant on his final tour of duty in Afghanistan. When he teams up with local translator Ahmed to survey the region, his unit is ambushed. Ahmed risks his life to save Kinle, making them both the only survivors of the patrol. Back on US soil, Kinley learns that Ahmed and his family have not received the ticket to evacuate Afghanistan that they had been promised. Determined to pay off his debt and protect his friend, he will return to the combat zone to rescue him and his loved ones.

The rest of the team

Alexander Ludwig, Antony Starr, Jason Wong, Bobby Schofield, Sean Sagar, Dar Salim and Emily Beecham are the other confirmed cast members. They sign the script with Ritchie Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. The director of ‘Snatch. Pigs and Diamonds’ and Atkinson are also producing the project along with Josh Berger and John Friedberg of STXfilms. Olga Filipuk (of Yandex-owned Kinopoisk) and Samantha Waite serve as executive producers.

On the other hand, around 400 local extras will participate in the filming, where the majority will represent members of the US troops. In addition, Ludwig has already been seen in the streets of Zaragoza and, according to the same media cited above, has won the sympathy of the citizens.
