After many setbacks such as crew deaths and major injuries, filming for ‘Indiana Jones 5’ ended last February. While we await the arrival of a trailer and promotional photos, the cast is already being questioned about what we can expect from the film and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, instead of revealing anything about the plot, Mads Mikkelsen has been put to talk about how impressed he is with the physique that Harrison Ford still has at 79: “The first time I saw him, he seemed like an incredibly powerful person,” he says, “Not just as an actor, but physically. I remember the first day I We were shooting it was a night session, we finished at 5 in the morning, then he got on his mountain bike and pedaled for 50 kilometers. Harrison is a monster of a man, a very nice monster.”
For the first time in the ‘Indiana Jones’ franchise, it is not Steven Spielberg who sits behind the cameras, but James Mangold, director of ‘Le Mans ’66’ and ‘Logan’. On the experience of joining this iconic saga at this point, Mikkelsen says that the film returns to the roots of the first installment, in the 80s, and that it looks like a Spielberg movie even though Mangold’s hand is noticeable: “‘Indiana ‘Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark’ was one of my favorite movies and it oozed the style of the golden age of 1940s TV shows. original feeling, original Indy, dense and epic”. Although he is contractually forbidden to reveal anything about his character, rumors suggest that he would play the villain, although he does not feel pressured by expectations.
The cast of ‘Indiana Jones 5’ is completed as far as we know by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Toby Jones. The script is signed by the director himself, Jez Butterworth (‘Spectre’) and John-Henry Butterworth (‘Edge of Tomorrow’). Spielberg serves as executive producer and Frank Marshall, Kathleen Kennedy and Simon Emanuel produce alongside him. In addition, John Williams also returns to the franchise to take care of the soundtrack. ‘Indiana Jones 5’ has its release date set for June 30, 2023.
What’s next from Mikkelsen
Mikkelsen has just released ‘Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets’ and after working fourteen months in a row between the universe of ‘Harry Potter’ and that of ‘Indiana Jones’, the actor plans to take six months of vacation to dedicate them to his wife, the choreographer Hanne Jacobsen, and her children, although they are now adults. After this break and before returning to promotions, Mikkelsen will star in Amma Asante’s film ‘The Billion Dollar Spy’ and wants to return to work in Denmark, his country of origin, combining his Hollywood and English-speaking projects with Europeans.
