The Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church located in Hostyn, Texas (United States), suffered a strong fire this morning, which has left one person injured so far.

On June 9, local media outlet The Fayette County Record posted a video showing the Holy Rosary Catholic Church burning in flames.

“Holy Rosary Church in Hostyn is on fire this morning. Numerous emergency teams are now on the scene,” she stated.

The Diocese of Victoria shared the video on its Facebook page, asking for prayers for the priest and the faithful of the affected parish, and announced that it will keep the public informed on the matter.

“Please keep Fr. Felix Twumasi and the parishioners of Holy Rosary Queen Catholic Church in Hostyn in your prayers. We will post updates as information becomes available,” he noted.

According to the parish website, Fr. Felix K. Twumasi is the administrator of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said in a recent statement that one person was injured in the fire, saying the fire appears to have been caused by a gas leak.

He reported that before 6:30 am (local time), shortly before the usual 7:00 am Mass on Thursdays, they received calls from people who reported the fire.

According to local media outlet KXAN, Fayette County Office of Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau said a woman was in the church lighting a candle when the explosion occurred.

He noted that upon arrival at the scene of the fire, authorities found an elderly woman with burns and rushed her to Dell-Seton Hospital in Austin, Texas.

For his part, Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek asked for prayers for the injured woman in a press release.

The sheriff noted that emergency response personnel gathered information indicating the fire may have been caused by a gas leak. However, he says the cause of the fire is still being investigated.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office public on his Facebook page more photos of the fire, reported that the highway near the parish is closed, and asked not to travel through the area to facilitate the rescue work.

“Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek advises that FM 2436 in Hostyn is currently closed due to a major fire at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn,” the post read.

“The road is completely closed at this time,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Please avoid the area so the first responders can do their job!” she added.
