Cardinal Carlos Osoro, Archbishop of Madrid (Spain), ordained eleven priests in the Almudena Cathedral this Saturday, May 21, and encouraged them to love like Jesus Christ.
The Mass was concelebrated by the auxiliary bishops and the rectors of the Madrid seminaries.
In line with Psalm 66 “Oh, God, may the peoples praise you, may all the peoples praise you”, Cardinal Carlos Osoro asked the priests to “announce the Gospel to all men so that with their lives, their words and his works let people know Jesus Christ Our Lord and praise him.”
The Archbishop of Madrid underlined, alluding to the opening of the ark of San Isidro that same morning, that he had kept the ordinands very much in mind because “it is about giving the holiness of God to all men”.
The Cardinal reminded them of their great task and indicated that “transformed in Christ you will be to live the strength and beauty that this ordination gives you to announce the Gospel of Jesus Christ Our Lord, the greatest thing that the human being can know”.
In this line, taking as a reference the Gospel proclaimed, the Archbishop of Madrid told them that “you are sent to dedicate yourselves to the cause of the Gospel and to carry out the works of the Lord”.
“United with the whole Church, you will be able to do the same thing that Jesus did: ‘Take and eat, take and drink’, as well as giving forgiveness to men and proposing the path of Jesus Christ”, he said.
Cardinal Carlos Osoro insisted that “your life and your ministry will have meaning to the extent that you graft your life on Jesus Christ.”
He also specified that the ordained are “loved to love, always living from love and with the love of the Lord. Love for Jesus makes us identify with Him, configure ourselves with Him, act like Him and love like Him.”.
The new priests are Esteban Bernárdez Yanes, Jorge Boada Sáenz, Diego Cano Morata. Enrique de Arteaga Bustamante, Pablo Galiot Caballero, Gleison Antonio Linhares dos Santos, Esteban Martínez González and Jesús Jorge Perea, from the Council Seminary.
Juan Alcalde Guibert, Andrea Bottana and Alejandro Guerrero Quirós, from the Redemptoris Mater Seminary, were also ordained.
