Rebecca is the official remake of a Gothic Novel with the same name. The basic idea of the film is based on this novel. Rebecca is the first wife of Maxim De Winter. However, she dies mysteriously. Thus, when Mr. de Winter remarries, his second wife experiences the shadow of her husband’s ex-wife, it gives birth to many questions in her mind.

Storyline of Rebecca

The story of Rebecca is about a newlywed woman. She and her husband (Maxim de Winter) move to his family estate. It turns out that the legacy of Maxim’s ex-wife still lives there, despite the fact that she had died long ago. The further story is all about the battles of Mrs. Winter with her husband’s ex-wife. However, this also makes her think about her relationship with Mr. de Winter. She finds herself in such a situation where she does not know whether her husband is still over his first wife or not.


Cast and What to Expect from the Film

The casting of Rebecca was announced by Netflix in November 2018, whereas further announcements were made in May 2019. The cast includes Lily James as Mrs. de Winter, Armie Hammer as Maxim de Winter, Kristin Scott Thomas as Mrs. Danvers, Tom Goodman-Hill as Frank Crawley, Keeley Hawes as Beatrice Lacy, Sam Riley as Jack Favell, Ann Dowd as Mrs. Van Hopper, Ben Crompton, Mark Lewis Jones as Inspector Welch, Jane Lapotaire as The Grandmother, and Ashleigh Reynolds as Robert. It is currently not known whether there are any flashback scenes and if yes, then the actress who would essay the role of Rebecca is also unknown.

The storyline seems to be very interesting and thrilling. Though the film covers multiple genres, Wheatly had once described Rebecca as a love story, first and foremost. Looking at the trailers and posters, this movie seems to be quite thrilling and promising. Viewers can expect to experience an interesting psychological ride throughout the film. Moreover, Netflix has always shone well when it comes to adapting novels into cinematography.


It was announced in November 2018, that the director for this film would be Ben Wheatley. Along with the director, the names of lead cast Lily James and Armie Hammer were also revealed. In May 2019, Kristin Scott Thomas, Keeley Hawes, Ann Dowd, Sam Riley, and Ben Crompton had joined the cast. The filming for the film started on 3 July 2019. Cranborne Manor in Dorset was used in filming Rebecca in July 2019. Rebecca was even filmed at Hartland Quay in Devon.


Rebecca is directed by Ben Wheatley. The film is an adaptation of the Gothic novel, “Rebecca” written by Daphne Du Maurier. The readers of the novel would be knowing the basic storyline. However, there is a section that wants this thriller to come to life in the form of a film. Many have been extremely excited ever since Netflix had announced this film.
