Johnny Depp recently requested a judge further to postpone his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard. The actor asked the judge to delay the $50 million (£37 million) defamation case as he has to shoot for Fantastic Beasts 3 in London at the same time. However, this didn’t sit well with Heard, and she has opposed Depp’s request for the same. The actress has accused him of making no effort whatsoever to adjust his shooting schedule around the court date.
Detailed Info on the Breaking News
Besides, Amber claims that the actor is merely trying to fool the judge and nothing else. Heard went all out in documents filed on Saturday against the actor’s request. Moreover, her lawyers pointed out that instead of speaking with his employer to reschedule the filming around the trial, Johnny wants the court to work out the trial around his employment. The court has set the dates January 11 to January 28, 2021, for the trail to run. On August 21, Johnny filed documents in Fairfax County (Virginia) to postpone the trial from January to anywhere between March and June next year.
Meanwhile, Heard’s lawyers alleged that the production house contacted Johnny with the filming dates months back — in late June or early July. But the actor didn’t alert them about the trial dates neither ask them to work it out around the trial. Amber added that she would start filming for Aquaman 2 in February 2020, and a delay will affect her schedule. Not only that but her lawyers argue that agreeing to Johnny’s request will carve the way to a slippery slope of delays.
Amber Heard and Johnny Depp Relationship History
Exes Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have been legally fighting with each other since years. The couple remained married for just 15 months before some accusations and legal battles flew out with their divorce. The actress has accused that Johnny physically, verbally and emotionally abused her during their marriage. Later, Depp claimed that it’s the other way round and Amber abused and violated him. He also filed a defamation case against the actress for indirectly calling him a wife beater in an article.
It’s still unclear if the judge will approve Johnny’s request or forgo it. But with Amber’s Aquaman and Depp’s Fantastic Beasts 3, the court will have to make a quick decision. Or else, the trail could take forever.
