The writer behind the popular series Riverdale is planning a massive change for the upcoming season. The CW series was meanwhile forced to end early than expected. Due to a hindrance in production caused by the coronavirus. And now the show has been left on the major cliffhanger of the secret between Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) and Betty Cooper’s (Lili Reinhart).
The Details of the leap
Executive producer and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa revealed to TVLine that the fifth season would move ahead several years in time after their senior year. And they’ll be skipping their university tenure entirely.
A page will turn for Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and others. Initially, the fourth season was to mark the end of their schooling at the high school before they leave for university.
Aguirre-Sacasa confirmed the leap saying that they’ve been talking and planning on doing a time jump. And of course, usually time-jumps happen between seasons, because there’s a tease at the very end.
The writer further added that the time jump likely would not kick off the fifth season since he wants to complete the final three episodes that were shut down due to COVID-19.
He revealed that what they’re doing is picking up right where they left off for the first three episodes. And then doing the time jump… after those three episodes.
Meanwhile, Aguirre-Sacasa had earlier confirmed that cast members Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols would be returning for the three previously-delayed episodes. To film the exits that were planned for their characters.
Duration of the time jump?
The creator of Riverdale has not yet specified what will be the duration of this jump in time. However, according to rumours, it could be 5 years. Which will allow them to stick to the plot of Katy Keene, the spin-off of the popular series? This spin-off takes place five years in the future.
So, what do you think?
