Yes, Hocus Pocus 2 is being made by Disney. However, the long-awaited sequel is making some major changes to the Sanderson Sisters. The classic 1990s movie Hocus Pocus is getting a sequel on Disney+.
Kenny Ortega directed Hocus Pocus. It starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and, Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters. They played the three witches who are burned at stake in 17th century Salem.
However, decades later, a teenager called Max played by Omri Katz moves to Salem and ends up at the witches’ old home.
And then he lights the Black Flame Candle, accidentally bringing the witches back from the dead. Max, his little sister Dani and local girl Allison team-up. Along with a talking cat to try and stop the witches. Before they can consume the life force of every child in town.
Hocus Pocus 2’s Cast List
Hocus Pocus’s director Kenny Ortega will not be involved in the sequel. Meanwhile, the movie was initially reported to feature an entirely new cast. However, with fall 2019’s confirmation that the Disney+ Hocus Pocus will be a sequel instead of a reboot.
And the original star Sarah Jessica Parker claims that she and co-stars Kathy Najimy and Bette Midler are onboard. They are just waiting for the call from Disney to make things official.
Meanwhile, Doug Jones, who played zombie character Billy, has also revealed that he would “love” to reprise his role. According to a report of March 2020, all three original Sanderson sisters are said to be expected to return.
Potential Release Date
While fans of the original film may be eager to see Hocus Pocus 2, development has been slow. However, the sequel is now rapidly moving ahead and set to stream on Disney+. And with Disney looking to invest millions into generating original content for the service, Hocus Pocus 2 Maybe fast-tracked.
However, the Coronavirus pandemic likely ended hopes for a 2020 release. Meanwhile, the production may still be able to kick-off before the end of the year with a 2021 debut in mind.
