Netflix may have found the face of its upcoming project, Selena: The Series. Multiple sources tell that actress Christian Serratos is ready to start because of the titular Tejana music star Selena Quintanilla.
The show comes quite 20 years after the legendary singer’s death. In December 2018, Netflix greenlit and announced the straight-to-series project. The streaming company also revealed that Selena: The Series would be developed. And that it would be executive produced alongside the Quintanilla family. Luckily, Serratos knows a thing or two about fan expectations.
Serratos no stranger to a rabid fanbase
This won’t be the first time Serratos wades into the fandom waters. The actress plays Rosita Espinosa on The Walking Dead. Serratos has been a neighbourhood of the zombie series since the fourth season.
Now, Serratos will follow within the footsteps of Jennifer Lopez. Who portrayed the icon during a 1997 biopic. She lip-synced along to Quintanilla’s greatest hits. As revealed within the first teaser for the Netflix series. Serratos will probably cause you to do a double-take once you see her rehearsing “Como La Flor” in her bedroom.
Other members of the cast
Joining Serratos within the first a part of the six-episode drama series (which will debut on the streaming platform in 2020) is Gabriel Chavarria as her brother and producer A.B. Quintanilla, Ricardo Chavira as her father Abraham Quintanilla. Noemi Gonzalez as her sister Suzette Quintanilla and drummer for the band, Seidy Lopez as her mother Marcella Quintanilla, and Madison Taylor Baez because of the young version of Selena Quintanilla.
Selena: The Series may be a coming-of-age story that focuses on the singer, songwriter, model, actress and dressmaker who became one among the foremost beloved Mexican-American entertainers. After launching her music career in 1980, Selena was dubbed the “Tejano Madonna.” She would continue to win a Grammy in 1994 for best Mexican/American album, becoming the primary female Tejano artist to try to so.
The series is being made in cooperation with the late singer’s family who function executive producers, with part 1 premiering on Netflix sometime in 2020.
