What happens when BBC and HBO come together to make a series? Well, the series “His Dark Materials” is the live example. The series has released one season till now. The reviews so far have been juggling on both sides. Some people liked it, some people did not. The series is available on BBC, HBO and Hotstar as of now.
Since the series was not very well received by the audience, are the makers going ahead with season 2?
Is His Dark Materials Season 2 Happening Despite Low Ratings?
It looks like the makers are learning from the reviews and the mistakes they made in the first season. Both BBC and HBO decided to come together again for the second season. The shoot for season 2 started pretty early as per the sources so it means that the shoot is about to wrap up.
Dafne Keen, an actor from the series said that the second season is going to be better than the first one.
Amir Wilson who plays to the role of Will Parry said that it is nice that the shoot is being done much before the release. He said that they all are working hard for Season 2. He added, “you just keep ploughing on, hoping you’re doing alright.”
The first season was released in November. And knowing that the season 2 filming started very well in advance, we can expect the release of His Dark Materials Season 2 to be in November as well.
Andrew Scott Confirmed To Join His Dark Materials Season 2
The makers are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the season two becomes much better than the first one. The series is an adaptation of the books, we can expect the season 2 to pick up from where they left in season 1. This means that the original cast of His Dark Materials can be expected to be back for season 2.
The main cast includes Dafne Keen as Lyra Belacqua, Ruth Wilson as Marisa Coulter, Clarke Peters as The Master, James Cosmo as Farder Coram, Ariyon Bakare as Lord Boreal, James McAvoy as Lord Asriel and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Lee Scoresby.
The sources confirmed that the Fleabag star Andrew Scott is joining the series in season 2. He will reportedly be playing the role Colonel John Parry, father of Will Parry who was a global-traveller.
Is His Dark Materials Season 2 Going To Be Darker Than The First One?
In an interview, Wilson said that season 2 is going to be much bigger than the first one and will be filled with more stories of adventures and bravery.
The upcoming season is said to be adapted from the book The Subtle Knife. So we can expect that season 2 will continue the series from the first part itself. His Dark Materials Season 1 did experiment with the storyline a bit which didn’t really work in their favour, so we shall expect that season 2 will surprise the fans with improvements.
For season 2 we can also expect some cosmic changes especially after Asriel’s discoveries regarding the nature of the Dust. We may also see a much bigger role for Magisterium in season 2 which would further emphasis the series as a “politically relevant adaptation” of Pullman’s books.
