A man was beaten up allegedly for being gay. A group of six boys broke the nose and cheekbone of the gay Irish author.
Slurs, Stones, And Sticks Were Thrown
A group of six boys assaulted the 42-year-old gay Irish author, Gavin McCrea. They attacked him during his peaceful walk in a Dublin park on February 1. The attackers were found to be in the ages of 12 and 15.
According to reports, the hooligans shouted slurs and threw stones at the famous author. They knocked McCrea down by hitting him from behind and kept punching his face. He was instantly knocked out and went unconscious. The kids saw the wreckage they created and fled the scene. The police are still trying to figure out the boys who were involved in the attack.
The Anti-Gay Teens
According to the sources, the boys knew who McCrea was and knew his sexuality. They were anti-gay teens and decided to beat him up when they saw the chance. The attackers are still out there and the officers are asking for any public support.
McCrea was walking down the park and was on the phone with his uncle while he was in the southern suburb of Rathmines. He passed the Dropping Well pub when the attackers saw him and started throwing homophobic slurs at him.
McCrea tried to alert the vehicles driving by and even tried to scare off the attackers, but all in vain. They started by throwing rocks then started throwing punches and landing kicks. He was left there, unconscious and severely wounded. He was outnumbered and the kids were pretty healthy, according to him.
Thankfully, a couple found him lying and called an ambulance. He was rushed to St. James Hospital as he suffered a broken nose and fractured jaw. He regained consciousness and then alerted the police, but they didn’t find any leads. Till now, there has not been much development in the case. They are seeking information from the residents.
