The man had a big family, so to say — the 73-year-old left behind 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family is in deep shock and are continually praying.
Shared A Room With The Killer Patient
The 73-year-old man was identified as Francisco Sanchez-Reyes, of Long Beach. He died after being severely beaten by a fellow patient at Long Beach hospital. Reportedly, they both shared a room. He was hit on January 31 and succumbed to his injuries this Sunday.
According to reports, he sustained major injuries to his upper torso. The suspect was found to be a 37-year-old man named Reginald Daniel Panthier. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon but not a firearm. He is also charged with one count of producing great bodily harm against an elder. But, the detectives are still looking in and pending charges are being discussed. There can be more charges of manslaughter as now Sanchez-Reyes has died, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Had A UTI, Had To Wait A Night
According to Ramon Sanchez, the victim’s son, his father went to the hospital to treat a urinary tract infection. Doctors decided to keep him overnight and gave room to make sure it was not an ulcer.
The next day, his daughter called the hospital to check on him, but the staff of the hospital said he had been rushed to another hospital in Long Beach.
Had To Take Off The Ventilator
The victim suffered significant internal bleeding in the brain and went into a coma. Doctors were sure that he couldn’t be saved. When there were no chances of survival, the family decided to take him off the ventilator on Sunday. It is not yet known what events transpired in the former hospital.
The family said he left behind 24 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who loved him dearly.
