According to reports, the police were called upon six six-year-old child. The child, who also has Down syndrome, had pointed finger guns towards the teacher.
The mother of the child, Margot Gaines, said that her daughter, in a moment of frustration had merely pointed a finger gun at the teacher. The child bad also exclaimed, ” I shoot you”. Following the incident, Tredyffrin-Easttown School District had opened an investigation. They had concluded that no one was in harm’s way. However, the district still contacted the police.
The mother states that after the incident, the child was taken to the principal. The principal had assured that there was no harm meant in any way. The school had quite quickly understood that the child had not understood what was said.
The mother exclaimed that her daughter with Downs syndrome did not understand what she was saying. Neither would any other child of that particular age.

The mother agitated and devastated at the incident, went public with her statement. She stated that she was ” alarmed that a school seems to be acting as an extension of the police department”. The data and records of a child in kindergarten sent to the police is shocking. The child’s threat was considered transient.
The School District Stated That It Was Their Policy That Urged Them To Report The Incident
However, the school stated that they would review the policy at another meeting. They also noted that the authorities are bound to report the event regardless of age. They claimed the incident was just for “reporting purposes”. Finally, the school further stated that Consultations do not in any way create juvenile or criminal records.
