In Meraux, a Man was shot to death when he went to his friend’s place to help him out. Albert Bourgeois, 37-year-old, was gunned down as he stepped out of his car, authorities said.
The Victim Died On The Scene
He was declared dead shortly after officials found his body in the parking lot of the Flowergate Apartments, 3400 Kent Ave.
However, Homicide detectives have arrested Keith Johnson and Daronica Lumar — the girl acquaintance who had asked for Bourgeois’ help — linked with the case, said Capt. Jason Rivarde, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman. But officials only recently revealed the link between Bourgeois and the suspects.
Johnson, 37, and Lumar, 28, lived together in an apartment in a residential area. After an argument, Lumar called Bourgeois and told the location and asked him to come and pick her up, according to Rivarde. Bourgeois arrived at the apartment about 11:20 p.m. Johnson opened fire on him just as he stepped out of his vehicle, Rivarde said. The incident was recorded by the apartment complex’s surveillance cameras, according to the officials.
Johnson immediately ran away from the scene. Lumar also fled away in her car, according to officials who spotted her leaving the apartment as they arrived.
Moreover, Lumar was taken into custody a short time later and interrogated about the shooting. She was arrested after she refused to testify against the person who had murdered Bourgeois, Rivarde said.
Suspect Facing Charges
Although, Lumar is facing charges and is booked on Jan. 19 with being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. Detectives identified Johnson as the shooter and got a warrant for his arrest. The U.S. Marshals Service tracked him to Jonesboro, Georgia, where he was taken into custody about a week later. Moreover, Johnson was extradited to Jefferson Parish and charged on Jan. 31 with second-degree murder, obstruction of justice and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
