This is regarding the struggle of the parents of child and youth program assistant at the Child Development Center on Yongsan Garrison in Seoul, South Korea, to get the body of their son after his death. This article covers the entire story and facts to get to know to have a clear picture.
He was not discharged until the bill got cleared :
The victim is a 31-year-old Gregory Allen. He died from a pulmonary embolism on Jan. 2 after arriving on Dec. 30 at Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital in Seoul in a disoriented state. His parents ran away to the hospital after knowing the news. It was a sad incident for them. The more which made them sad is that the hospital didn’t leave his body to their parents until the bill of 24000 dollars is paid. The parents lacked in money. So they were not even able to afford to pay the bill.
GoFundMe page aided the money needed :
A friend of mine created a gofundme page and described the event. The GofundMe page got handy as it could cover more than 10000 dollars with it. So they made the parents of Gregory Allen afford the medical bill.
The grief of the victim’s parents :
The mother of Gregory Allen stated that it was a horrible state treating a man who served his nation and lost his death. She just wanted to tell you that I hope no army people serving their country get such disrespect. She broke herself into tears stating these.
The Department of Defense, mortuary affairs team, collected the dead body of Gregory last, and an autopsy was performed at Camp Humphreys, the new U.S. military headquarters base south of Seoul. A funeral has been scheduled for Saturday in Gregory Allen’s hometown of Ferriday, La. It was heartbreaking news for everyone to see a person serving for the nation to leave his life like this.
