Jesse Lazalde, 25, was hit and killed by a runaway driver on December 26. The incident took place at 3 am near Church and Golden State in southeast Fresno. This mishap happened a few days before the unfolding of the New Year. Jesse was walking on the road, minding his own business when out of nowhere, a car crashed into him.
The grieving family of the deceased is heartbroken due to this incident. Lazalde was the 44th person to be killed in a car crash in Fresno and also the 9th pedestrian to meet a similar fate in the year 2019.
A Memoir In His Memory
The site of the accident now has a holy cross surrounded by pictures of him where Fresno high school graduate took his last breath.
The police had reported at the scene at around 3 am where they had found the lifeless body of the deceased on the side of the road. The police were led in the right direction by a witness who had seen the crash.
While the police have gotten some help in the form of videos from local businesses in the area, description of the vehicle, etc. But it is difficult for them to trace the model and license plate.
Sgt. Dave Gibeault, Fresno Police Department, said, “We are going through whatever steps we can to enhance the video and try and determine the vehicle.”
“He Was A Selfless Being.”
“He changed my whole life, especially my heart. He filled my heart full of love that I had never seen before,” said Gonzalez, Jesse’s grieving father. Jesse’s entire family is going through a rough patch. He described him as a selfless and bright boy.
While reminiscing about his son, Gonzalez cited an anecdote o f Jesse’s selflessness. He said, “One day, he took his shoes off and gave it to a homeless walking down the sidewalk. I couldn’t believe his gesture. He was a person who was always ready to do anything for anyone.”
