Irish Man Weeps In Court After Killing ‘Hard Working’ 21-Year-Boy With One Single Punch

Throwing a punch is one thing, but throwing a punch to kill is another. Court sentenced a 26-year-old man to six months of jail time. The man allegedly threw one single punch in 2018 outside a New York City bar. But this punch changed his life and took another breath. Moreover, it led to the death of the doorman and construction worker aged 21.

A judge approved the half-year sentence on Wednesday. The short sentence comes after a plea deal from last November. The alleged, Steven O’Brien, faces charges of a third-degree assault. In the early morning hours of Thanksgiving 2018, the incident took place. Moreover, it happened outside the Gaslight Bar in Queens. O’Brien, an Irish citizen, happened to be at the bar. However, he threw a hard punch to the head of the victim, Danny McGee. According to reports, the two were having an apartment that did not take long to turn violent.

The victim fell on the ground after the single punch and died

McGee remained unconscious outside the bar. He remained lifeless there in the early hours of November 22, 2018. Later, they rushed him to the hospital. However, the 21-year-old had already taken his last breath. They went ahead, declaring him dead at the hospital.

A year after the incident, O’Brien now faces the penalty for his crime. He wept at the defence table. He kept crying and, hopefully, regretting his mistake. Not only that, but the victim’s mother made sure to address a letter to her son’s killer. O’Brien cried out loud after hearing the message which they read aloud in the court.

The emotions of the mother in the letter were heartbreaking and real. She started the addressed letter by saying, “You killed my son.” “Your actions were solely responsible for Danny’s death,” the victim’s mother wrote to O’Brien. She also went ahead and added that Danny happened to be a hard worker. Nevertheless, he excelled in Soccer as well as Gaelic football.

The victim’s parents taught him never to raise his hand on anyone

His family brought him with the best of manners and values. They taught him “not to raise his hand to anyone.” She said that Danny’s death has an immeasurable impact. Her son’s thoughts consume her every moment and that he could’ve achieved so much in life.
