An award-winning, Texas high school teacher guiltily accused of sexually abusing a student. Police arrested the teacher, previously well-known as the district’s “teacher of the year.”

36-year-old Randi Chaverria worked at Round Rock High School as a Family and Consumer Science teacher. According to statements, she sexually abused a student several times last month. The two remained sexually active with each other during the 2019 fall semester. Moreover, the student let out to the cops that Chaverria performed oral sex on him twice.

Chaverria is guilty of improper relationship with a student

Moreover, police checked the text messages between the student and Randi. The words appear to confirm the charges. Before the issue went public, Chaverria gave up her job as a teacher. According to reports, she is facing charges for the improper relationship between teacher and student.

Cops have not yet revealed what the age of the student. However, she only faces charges of improper relationship with a student. She is not facing a child sex abuse charge. Therefore, this means that the student is of the age of 17 or above.

Matt Groff, principal of Round Rock High School, sent a letter to the families of students. He says that they first came to know on November 18. He told the parents that they reported Chaverria to the District’s Human Resources Department and law enforcement.

She won an award for ‘Secondary Teacher of the Year’ in May

However, she already quit before that. Now, Chaverria is not allowed to return to campus ever again. She might even lose her teaching license. Groff reported the case to the State Board for Educator Certification.

The school district’s website shows that Chavarria received ‘Secondary Teacher of the Year’ in May. Along with that, she ran the “Adopt-A-Child” program.

She turned herself in on Tuesday morning. Police locked her up at Williamson County Jail. But, since then, she has been sent out on bond.
