A$AP Rocky and two of his companions – Bladimir Corniel and David Rispers – were accused of beating 19-year-old Mustafa Jafari during a street fight on June 30, 2019 in Stockholm, where the rapper was visiting as part of the European leg of his tour.
Mustafa Jafari, the alleged victim of the assault, said he was in Stockholm looking for a friend when he encountered the rapper and his entourage outside of a restaurant. After he asked the group if they’d seen his friend, Rocky’s bodyguard responded by telling him to go away and then pushing him. Jafari claimed that things got more violent from there. The bodyguard grabbed him around the neck and forcibly picked him up off of the ground, led him away and broke Jafari’s headphones in the process. Jafari said that he then threw the headphones at the bodyguard and followed the group, trying to talk about his broken headphones, when he was hit in the back of the head with a bottle unexpectedly. Once he was on the ground, four men, including Rocky, proceeded to punch and kick him, he alleged.
Mustafa Jafari, 19, claimed on Tuesday that A$AP Rocky and his entourage hit him at least 20 times and left him with broken ribs and cuts all over his body and this testimony of his landed the 30-year-old rapper in jail. Rocky was to face 2 years in prison if convicted. But after the verdict came out, the rapper even though found guilty was not asked to serve jail time. “The assault has not been of such a serious nature that a prison sentence must be chosen,” the court said in a statement. “The defendants are therefore sentenced to conditional sentences.”
A suspended sentence means that as long as ASAP Rocky and the two other men found guilty commit no further crimes during a two-year probation period, they will avoid prison. After the verdict came out, the 30-year-old rapper who was pleading not guilty took to instagram and said he was “disappointed” with the verdict, but also thanked all his fans for praying for him and standing by him through it all.
