The Shape Of You hitmaker Ed Sheeran promulgated at his last show on Monday that he’ll be going on a lengthy interlude. Announcing his break in Chantry Park, Ipswich, he said he wants to spend time with his family, his friends, and his childhood-sweetheart-turned-new-wife, Cherry Seaborn.
How long do we need to wait to see him again?
Well, Eddy deserves this much-awaited hiatus after performing on his Divide Tour since March 2017, clocking up an astonishing 260 shows. At the sentimental last gig, he said, “As you may or may not know, I’ve been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing.”
Going on he expressed his “bittersweet” emotions about the break and said, “This is my last gig for probably 18 months.” So, we won’t be seeing him for about a year and a half (heart-breaking, I know!).
Ed Sheeran gets sentimental
Since March 2017, Suffolk-born Sheeran has played to more than 9 million fans. It is the biggest tour ever, said the 28-year-old singer and songwriter at his last performance on Monday.
“It’s been an emotional day for a lot of people backstage. It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you’re breaking up with a girlfriend that you have been with for years,” he added comically.
Expressing his high spirits to be performing in Ipswich, he said he was happy to be ending the “mammoth tour” there. Winding up his speech he thanked everyone who had been with him throughout his tour.
His last song was dedicated to his childhood sweetheart
The newly married Sheeran turned pink when he talked about his better-half, Cherry Seaborn, who he secretly married in December 2018. Prior to singing “Hearts Don’t Break Around Here”, he revealed the song was written for Cherry.
Cherry has been working in accountancy throughout Ed’s tour – meaning they didn’t get to spend much time together. And he made it no secret of his desire to start a family and live a normal life.
Eddy, however, has already started planning his comeback and he says it could be with a band. Dominating the charts again his new album “No. 6 Collaborations Project” was written on the move. It is still heart-rending to bid him goodbye for 18-months.
