Netflix’s epic drama “The Crown” sees a change in the reign of the Royal Highness as Olivia Colman replaces Claire Foy for the role of Queen Elizabeth II. One would expect the latest ‘Queen’, that is Olivia Colman, to be frolicking around on cloud 9 but instead the actress states that ” It’s horrendous. Everyone loves Claire Foy, so I have got the worst job in the world at the moment. ” , as covered by the Entertainment Weekly.
The Queen has cold feet.
It seems like Olivia Colman has nothing more than a simple case of cold feet, that is, she is scared that if she will be able to do as good a job as her predecessor. In order to overcome this dilemma, she cleverly decided to try out Claire’s impressions. “It’s the same as any classical play you do – everyone will have already played that part before. The first week, I did feel myself trying to do Claire’s impressions. What would she have done? ” were actress Colman’s very words.
But why is it that Olivia Colman replaced Claire Foy in the first place? Did a scandal take place?
‘The Crown’ portrays the long reign of Queen Elizabeth as a result of which the show was already running with a pre-determined plan to swap out all the actors every two seasons as the Queen and everyone around her steadily grow older. It seems that Foy portrayed the Queen in the late 1940’s, while Colman will begin her reign in the 1960’s. It seems that the only scandal that has taken place so far is in her Majesty’s own life, and not on the set.
What does the series showrunner have to say?
Peter Morgan, that man running series, said that Colman was his one and only choice for the role of an older version of Queen Elizabeth. “Olivia Colman was a list of one. I think I wanted to know [she would play the part] even before the negotiations were done for season 3 and 4.” said Morgan.
Interestingly enough, Colman has already experienced what it is to be like a Queen as she has earlier portrayed the Oscar-winning role of the British monarch, Queen Anne, in “The Favorite”.
This was the only issue Morgan had. He would have preferred her not to have played another Queen before. However, he contended himself by saying that both the queens have very different ” tones”.
