The first two seasons of The Crown were released in November 2016 and December 2017 respectively. Netflix was always anticipating a longer break between Season 2 and 3 due to the introduction of a new cast. Following Foy’s Emmy best actress win for her role in the epic Netflix drama, there is a lot of expectation for Oscar winner Colman’s performance.
The filming for this series began in July 2018. The principal filming finished in February 2019. The filming for season 4 was set to start in August. Season 3 will be released on Netflix on Sunday, the 17th of November, 2019.
What is going to happen?
This epic drama is set to move into a new era both with a new cast with time moving forward in this epic story of the most famous family on the planet. While the first two seasons showed the early years of Queen Elizabeth’s II’s reign from 1947-63, the third and fourth seasons will span the years 1964-76. There have been no spoilers yet, however, fans predict that this time we might get to see the monarch cultivating her steadiest relationship with a Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, who served as head of the British government during this period. Stars have also revealed that the series will include an episode on the Apollo 11 moon landing!
The new season will also see the introduction of Charles’ second wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles. Season 3 will probably also cover the decolonization of Africa and the Caribbean, the birth of Prince Edward and Prince Charles’ movement into the public eye following his coronation as the Prince of Wales in 1969.
Cast in the epic drama?
Queen Olivia Colman will replace Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II in season 3 of the series. She was the first cast member announced. Outlander star, Tobias Menzies will play the role of Prince Philip. Jason Watkins will play Prime Minister Harold Wilson. “Call the Midwife” actor Erin Doherty is going to play the role of Princess Anne. Josh O’ Connor is set to play the role of Prince Charles in what is set to be a key period in the Prince of Wales’s history. Helena Bonham Carter will play the role of Princess Margaret. Meanwhile, the Queen Mother will be played by Marion Bailey. Emerald Fennell will play the key role of Camilla Shand, Prince Charles’ future wife. Gillian Anderson, who starred in X Files and Sex Education, is set to play the role of Margaret Thatcher.
Emma Corrin is going to play Lady Diana Spencer, who will be the future Princess of Wales in The Crown.
