Over the course of time, we have definitely lost some of the greatest leaders of our nation. This again is a sad day for the history books. Former Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, passes away at the age of 81. It’s a shock to many as she was one of the greatest politicians that our nation ever had.

Sheila Dikshit’s death

Sheila Dikshit died after a prolonged illness in Delhi’s Fortis Escorts hospital. She was admitted originally at the hospital a few days ago. Due to the alarms of a cardiac arrest, she passed away on 20th July, at the time of 3:55 p.m. The former CM of Delhi served the state for 15 long years, starting from 1998 and going up all the way till 2013.

Let us talk about a general background of who Sheila Dikshit was and how she was one of the greatest politicians this country ever had. She was the longest-serving chief minister of Delhi, which is for 15 long years. That is for the years of 1998 till 2013. Her reign is considered to be the best of times for Delhi.

She was born in the city of Kapurthala, Punjab into a Punjabi Khatri family. Her schooling was done from the very famous Convent of Jesus and Mary School in New Delhi. She acquired a Master of Arts degree in history and then went on to become one of the greatest politicians ever.

Her achievements are highly commendable. She led the Indian National Congress Party to three consecutive wins in Delhi. Although in the 2013 elections, she was defeated by the newly rising, Aam Aadmi Party, led by Arvind Kejriwal.

For the people of Delhi, she was one of the best chief-ministers that the state could ever have. Delhi saw a lot of success under her name. She has been commended with the 2013 Delhi Women of the Decade Achievers Award 2013 by ALL Ladies League for Outstanding Public Service.

This great politician will be an icon to the Indian people. She will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, Sheila Dikshit. You will be missed for the valor you had.
