Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had unfollowed several royal accounts on Instagram on Wednesday. The pair’s following list shrunk from 23 to just 16. They unfollwed all the royal accounts of the family members. This includes Kensington Royal (Prince William and Kate Middleton) account.
They both explained in a lengthy post that the move was strategic and meant to highlight Mental Health Awareness Month. They said,
“To pay tribute to all of the incredible work people across the globe are doing in this space, we are hoping to shine a light on several Instagram accounts. The ones that promote mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care, and the importance of human connection. It’s motto is to not just hear each other, but to listen.”
Accounts the parents-to-be are following include Heads Together, which is the royals’ mental health initiative. They also follow Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and Oprah Winfrey’s SuperSoul Sunday talk show. Each month, Meghan and Harry will change the accounts they follow to draw attention to a different theme or cause.
Harry and Meghan unveiled their Instagram account last month. Just five hours and 45 minutes after their account went live, @SussexRoyal had already amassed 1 million followers. Guinness World Records said it hit the milstone in record time.
