On Sunday, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in the Maldives for a 2-day visit. However, it is the first complete two-sided trip from India To Maldives. She received a warm welcome at the airport by the Maldives. On Male airport, Maldives Foreign minister Abdulla Shahid and Foreign Secretary Abdul Mohamed welcome her.

EAM Sushma Swaraj receives a warm welcome on arrival in the Maldives. In a special gesture, FM Abdulla Shahid & Foreign Secretary Abdul Mohamed receive EAM at the airport. A 1st high-level visit to the Maldives. This is after since new Maldives government assumed office in Nov. 2018.
Furthermore, The Maldives Foreign Ministry said, ”Both governments will discuss ongoing and future collaboration arrangements. It will include the implementation of the agreed outcomes of the state visit to India by President Solih.” Further, the ministry added, “discussions will focus on development cooperation, cooperation in the field of health, and enhancing people-to-people contact.”
Relations between the two neighbors have vastly improved. This is after taking over of a new government in the Maldives under President Solih. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attended the swearing-in ceremony of Mr. Solih. The ceremony was in last November.
