The CID of the Tamil Nadu police has written to social Meida website Facebook and mobile messaging stage WhatsApp finding log information. “In this case, the suspicion is that the accused filmed victims and shared it via WhatsApp. They allegedly befriended girls on Facebook to lure them into a trap and exploit…This activity log can be easily retrieved,” the officer said.
According to the United States system prerequisites defined by WhatsApp authorities, law-enforcement agencies could seek information. All this to be done in accordance with the terms & conditions and US laws. This also includes the Federal Stored Communication Act.
“We may collect, use, preserve, and share user information if we have a good faith belief that it is reasonably necessary to – (a) keep our users safe, (b) detect, investigate, and prevent illegal activity, (c) respond to legal process, or to government requests, (d) enforce our Terms and policies.” – The Company stated.
Also, Section 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, a court or officer in charge of a police station can – 1. issue summons to produce documents, 2. Other things necessary or desirable for the purpose of any investigation.
