A very gigantic earthquake stuck Hawaii, striking just miles from the active Kilauea volcano which caused devastation across Big Island last year.
Therefore, It registered 5.3 magnitudes and struck at 12.55 am local time (10.55 pm GMT). Residents recorded their experiences on the earthquake-tracking website EMSC-CSEM. One said: “Very strong earthquake in Volcano, Hawaii.”
Further, another said: “ We felt a big QUAKE here at 12:57 am. Woke us outta sleep. Bed was just rocking and rolling!
“I noticed that it knocked things off my stove and shifted a few things around here and there a bit!”
Hawaii’s Civil Defense mentioned that no tsunami was anticipated because the earthquake “was not large enough.”
They added: “Be aware of the possibility of aftershocks.”
According to the US Geological Society, the extensive damage caused by the earthquake was unlikely.
They said:,“Overall, the population in this region resides in structures that are resistant to the earthquake shaking, though vulnerable structures exist.
“The predominant vulnerable building types are reinforced brick masonry and reinforced masonry construction.”
Moreover, last May the Leilani Estates neighborhood near Kilauea was evacuated after a 5.0 magnitude earthquake causing the creation of dangerous fissures.
The lava flows exacerbated by earthquakes destroyed dozens of homes just within days.
Besides this, as per according to the reports, 650 homes were destroyed snatching the shelters for thousands of people.
Because the earthquake created a massive impact considering the act of the destruction.
