Home and away starring Ray Meagher, 74-year-old Australian actor has decided to take a break just for a little bit. After portraying Alf Stewart of more than three decades now he chooses to sit back.
This television superstar has no plans for retirement. When asked about his retirement plans, he said, “ I don’t really think much about retirement,”. “I guess the time will come and I will, but I just signed another contract for three years … but sometimes contracts are made to be broken,” he laughed. He signed this three-year contract to continue is the role as unofficial mayor of Summer Bay in Summer Bay Slaughter.
For his previous contracts, he used to work for approximately 46 weeks. He said,
“We work for 46 weeks of the year, but I have clauses where I can give producers a reasonable amount of notice for them to write me out to go to the UK and do pantomimes or to go to London and do Priscilla in the West End,” he said.
When asked about his latest additions and changes to the new contract, he said “In this latest contract I said I wanted to work fewer weeks, so we’ve worked that out, but I’ll still be there more often than not. He then added “I’m taking a tiny little bit of extra time … but it’s not a bridge to retirement,” When the time comes, he just doesn’t want to quit. It must end ‘with a bang’, being a revelation in itself.
